Jesus' Revelation

When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:3

For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. 1 Thessalonians 5:2

As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, [men] marrying and [women] being given in marriage, until the [very] day when Noah went into the ark, And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away—so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Matthew 24:37-39

The verses above raise the greatest questions for me about the end times. If the Book of Revelation, the Revelation of our Lord, is talking about our flesh and the hardships that are to come, then none of these verses make any sense to me. If the last 3 ½ years of this earth’s history, as told to John by Jesus in Revelation, is primarily dealing with the woes of our bodies, then none of these verses would be true. Because if Jesus is telling us that our flesh will be tormented as it never has before during the Great Tribulation, then no one would be saying peace and safety. They wouldn't  be saying peace because everyone would be terrified and looking for His return. And no one would be getting married if all of the green grass was gone, a 1/3rd of the trees were gone, everything in the sea was dead, and a 1/3rd of the sun was darkened. But if the events that are told to us by John are dealing with our spirits, then we would not only be saying peace and marrying, we would be doing them to excess. We would because the tragedies of the separation from our Father would all be glorifying our flesh. It would be perilous times because we would be completely focused on our flesh and not at all on the Spirit. The end times will be perilous because the Truth is: those who worship our Father must worship Him in Spirit and Truth, John 4:23.

But understand this, that in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear]. For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane  [They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good. 2 Timothy 3:1-3

The older I get, the more I find myself running from the religion of my youth. I do this because the preaching that I heard in my past is constantly being destroyed by the Truth of our Father’s Word. So many preachers when I was growing up talked about the Great Tribulation and all of the hardships of the flesh that would occur during those times. But when I read what Jesus said, it seems like the flesh will be glorying in itself as it never has before, which will cause our souls and spirits, which are our eternal parts, to suffer as they never have before. So with that thought in mind, let’s begin a study of the Book of Revelation, but let’s focus primarily on our spirits and not on our flesh as is so often the case with Revelation. I don't believe that there are no references to our flesh in Revelation, but I do believe that the Book deals more with our spirits and souls then most of us believe or have been taught.
