·
Laodicea means
people who keep laws.
· The city was very
prosperous because it was situated on a main trade route. The city flourished
with large money transactions and with extensive trade in Black Wool.
· Jesus is also the
Creator of all of God’s creation. That means that He owns everything. The Earth
is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, Psalm 24:1.
·
Jesus created all
of us. He has responsibility over all of us, John 17:2. It is our Father’s will
that we all be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth, 1Timothy 2:4.
There is nothing that has been created that Jesus doesn’t control and it all
works for our good, Romans 8:28. So every last event that we are shown in
Revelation is for our good.
· Remember this
Truth as we study on. We are going to read about some bad times, whether
spiritual or physical, the events of Revelation work for our good.
15 I know your [record of] works and what you are
doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot!
·
Jesus came to do
away with serving through laws. We now are empowered by the Holy Spirit and our
Father’s grace. We are saved by what Jesus did, not what we are doing.
·
The law is
against us, that is why Jesus nailed it to the Cross with Him, Colossians 2:14.
·
Also this was a
very prosperous city. The love of money is the root of all evil. So this could
have been like many churches today, that focus on money, and seem to tie everything
back to it. People feel that they are working for God, but they are actually
trying to buy His favor.
16 So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot,
I will spew you out of My mouth!
· We are either
truly chosen by our Father to serve or we are not chosen by Him. There is no in between.
Those who play church are always defeated and destroyed because they trust in
themselves and they look to themselves. They are always defeated because they
have no root and they wither up when persecution arises. They are choked by the
cares of this world. Instantly satan steals from them the Truth that they hear.
Only the chosen ones, who are grafted into the Vine of Jesus are used by God to
produce a crop of 30, 60, and 100 fold, Matthew 13.
·
The Bride, the
truly saved, can never be lukewarm, because whatever would cause us to be
lukewarm is pruned out of us by our Father, John 15:2.
