Sermon On The Mount: Part 24

Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors. And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus told us in verse 6 that we are to go into our private room, shut the door, and what we pray for in private our Father will reward us for in the open. I think it is funny that I usually only prayed the Lord’s Prayer in a huge group setting in church.

What I love so much about the Lord’s prayer is that we all ask that our Father’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. If that is what we are praying for ask yourself this, is there free will in Heaven? Satan and a 1/3rd of the angels thought there was and they learned quickly that there wasn’t. Our Father is in complete and total control of all of the affairs of Heaven and the Truth is that He is on the earth as well.

He said to them, It is not for you to become acquainted with and know what time brings [the things and events of time and their definite periods] or fixed years and seasons (their critical niche in time), which the Father has appointed (fixed and reserved) by His own choice and authority and personal power. Acts 1:7

So then [God's gift] is not a question of human will and human effort, but of God's mercy. [It depends not on one's own willingness nor on his strenuous exertion as in running a race, but on God's having mercy on him.] For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, I have raised you up for this very purpose of displaying My power in [dealing with] you, so that My name may be proclaimed the whole world over. So then He has mercy on whomever He wills (chooses) and He hardens (makes stubborn and unyielding the heart of) whomever He wills. Romans 9:16-18

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. [For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him, and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him.] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it). Romans 11:36

But when He, Who had chosen and set me apart [even] before I was born and had called me by His grace (His undeserved favor and blessing), saw fit and was pleased Galatians 1:15

For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Ephesians 2:10

Jesus is our Shepherd and we are His sheep. Do sheep have a free will? Jesus is our Vine and we are the branches. Do branches have a free will? Jesus is our Head and we are His body. Do body parts have a free will? Our Father is the Potter and we are the clay. Does clay have a free will?

And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall heed My ordinances and do them. Ezekiel 36:27

Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in Your book all the days [of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:6

O Lord [pleads Jeremiah in the name of the people], I know that [the determination of] the way of a man is not in himself; it is not in man [even in a strong man or in a man at his best] to direct his [own] steps. Jeremiah 10:23

Our Father’s will is being done on earth, just like it is in Heaven, just as He has us pray.
