We Are Promised Eternal Life

"And for this cause He is the Mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance." Hebrews 9:15

Let’s read this verse from the Amplified Bible as well. “[Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfillment of the promised everlasting inheritance-since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement.” Hebrews 9:15 Amplified Bible

Jesus has given us a New Covenant, a totally New Covenant. The Old Covenant was a covenant of works, the Ten Commandments, the Law, do these things and don’t do those things. The New Covenant that Jesus has given us is a Covenant of faith, believe and trust in God and He will accomplish the works of righteousness through you. That is what it really boils down to, Jesus gave our Father the ability to be in Control of our lives and since He is, Jesus gave us the ability to live free from the burdens and distresses that came from Adams sin. We have received the fulfillment of the everlasting inheritance, which has redeemed us and delivered us from sin.

We have been rescued from sin, that’s awesome stuff! Think about being rescued; when you have been rescued are you still in danger from what you were rescued from? I mean if a firefighter rescues a child from a burning building the fire and smoke are no longer an issue for the child. He is safe; he is saved. Now we have been rescued from sin, we are now saved from it, the destruction of it, the power of death within it, they are no longer an issue for us, Jesus has saved us from it, so that we might have the promise of an everlasting inheritance with our Father, joint-heirs with Christ. We have now been delivered from sin! The firefighter who rescues a child doesn’t just take the child to another floor in the burning building, He takes the child from the burning building, and he takes him a safe distance from it. We aren’t just rescued from the deadly forces of sin; Jesus has delivered us from it! It’s over there, we can still see it, but the destruction of it is no longer touching us, we are no longer in the middle of it, able to be effected by it!

“And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3 “Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him.” 1 John 3:6 “For He says, in the time of favor (of an assured welcome) I have listened to and heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold now is truly the time of a gracious welcome and acceptance [of you from God]; behold now is the day of salvation!” 2 Corinthians 6:2 Amplified Bible

Take these three verses together along with Hebrews 9:15 and what do we see? We see that eternal life, or eternal inheritance, for us is to know God and to know Jesus. We see that Jesus is the One Who gave this to us, by His death we now have eternal life, only by His death, not by us keeping a set of ordinances or laws, not by our works, it’s a free and gracious gift! The time of that gift is right now, it’s not a future promise, it’s a now promise! We see that this promise has rescued us from sin and Jesus has delivered us from it. How did He do it? He did it by fulfilling all of the requirements of the Law for us. That responsibility has been taken away from us, Jesus was the only One Who could do it and He did! We see that if we abide in Him we do not sin, if you read on in 1 John 3 you will see we don’t sin because Jesus is within us, it’s His power, not ours.

'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit," Romans 8:1-4

How is it that we don’t sin, I mean just look at us? But according to God, we who are in Christ sin not! We don’t sin because Jesus has fulfilled all of the needed requirements of the consequences of sin for us, so that we can be free from sin. We are not free from transgressions by our actions, thank God we aren’t; we are free from sin only because of Jesus’ actions. The penalty has been paid; the consequences have been satisfied. We are free from sin and it’s powers because Jesus has accomplished what we could not do. The law said that if you sin, than there is death, or separation from God, there would be no eternal life where the penalty and price of sin still existed. But because of Jesus and because of His Blood, that law is now of no effect, the price has been paid, the debt is cancelled, the penalty is fulfilled. If you accept Jesus as Lord, there is no more separation by actions, there is no more condemnation, because we are redeemed, rescued, and delivered from the law of sin and death.

Now the power of Jesus’ salvation, is that all of the do’s and don’ts of the Old Law, the things that we should do to live right, can now be fully achieved and actually walked in by us. Because it is now our Father within us Who is doing the works. The same power Jesus had, it was God within Jesus, the Two were One, Who was allowing Him to accomplish everything that was needed to save us! Jesus walked perfectly because He was God, and because of Jesus, we too are now one with God! I really hope you see this, our Father fully equipped Jesus with Himself and His intention was so that through Jesus we too may be fully equipped.

Don’t think for one second that I believe that the acts of sin are alright: murder, lies, stealing, adultery, whatever; they aren’t. But for those who have truly accepted Jesus as Lord these acts no longer separate us from our Father, we don’t come in and out of our salvation, our eternity isn’t based on us keeping a set of rules. “[Therefore I do not treat God’s gracious gift as something of minor importance and defeat its very purpose]; I do not set aside and invalidate and frustrate and nullify the grace (unmerited favor) of God. For if justification (righteousness, acquittal from guilt) comes through [observing the ritual] of the Law, then Christ (the Messiah) died groundlessly and to no purpose and in vain. [His death was then wholly superfluous].” Galatians 2:21 Amplified Bible

What I believe is what our Father has given us, freedom! We walk eternally with our Father because of Jesus and because our Father has allowed us to accept Him as Lord. God is now within us and we are now in Him. He is now given us the strength, the energy, the faith, the love, the hope, and the power to walk in full and complete righteousness. We are no longer trying to walk uprightly alone, we have God within us, and man He is able and willing to keep us right! We may need to grow up in some areas, but we have been born of perfection, and Dad is right here with us, one with us, and He is doing what is needed to fully equip us in righteousness.

We are perfect because the penalty of sin that separated us from perfection has been removed. The new Law, the Law that Jesus came and ratified with His Blood, says that if we are chosen by God to accept Jesus, we are made perfect in the sight of God. We are perfect because we are born again of perfection, our Father’s seed bore us, and He is perfect! Jesus was born of God and a woman, and God’s perfection overrode the woman’s imperfection, His seed hasn’t changed, it’s done the same for us! We are sanctified not because we have done something right; we are sanctified because Jesus provided sanctification and gave it to us. We are glorified because Jesus asked God to glorify us; we are born of it, an apple tree does not produce grapes! Not only are we born of perfection, we are grafted into the Vine, which is Jesus, to insure that perfection and glory, and honor, and righteousness, continually and forever nourishes us and provides life for us. There is now no condemnation for us. Jesus has fulfilled the righteousness of the law within us. We have been delivered from the consequences and penalties of sin by a Savior Who did the job completely!

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." Hebrews 10:10

Christ sanctifies us! Our Father does not say that we will be sanctified, not that we are being sanctified, but that we are sanctified, once and for all. Can I get an A-men from the choir here. Oops my Pentecostal roots are showing. You can't see it but I am wiping my forehead with my hanky right now.

But seriously, how much plainer can God be than with all of these verses that we have studied? Because of Jesus we are now sanctified, we are set apart for Holy use, we are made free from sin, we have an eternal inheritance, and we are glorified once and for all. God Himself preserves us, and we are preserved until the day of the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is so simple, it is so easy, and A-men it is so free. Jesus loves us!
