Revelation 9:2-6

2 He opened the long shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit), and smoke like the smoke of a huge furnace puffed out of the long shaft, so that the sun and the atmosphere were darkened by the smoke from the long shaft.
The bottomless pit, the place where the demons begged Jesus not to send them when He came on the seen in Luke 8:31, is now wide open. This has to be one nasty place that even the demons fear it. This is a place where our Father has imprisoned His ultimate tools of wrath. Remember in Revelation 8, that the eagle cried out: woe, woe, to the whole earth! Now everyone, everywhere, who have not been sealed by our Father, feel the effects of His wrath.
Up unto this time there has been war, inflation, and natural disasters. For the unindustrialized world these things mean nothing. Unless their water supply or their land was directly affected by the war, these events would go widely unnoticed. But now the spiritual attacks of these beings affect all of the unsealed. The natural disasters will affect these people as well.
3 Then out of the smoke locusts came forth on the earth, and such power was granted them as the power the earth's scorpions have.
4 They were told not to injure the herbage of the earth nor any green thing nor any tree, but only [to attack] such human beings as do not have the seal (mark) of God on their foreheads.
Once again we see that we are protected from the physical, natural, and spiritual events of the Wrath of our Father. Here is another reference to the Church being here on the earth during the three and a half years of the Great Tribulation.
Also notice that these beings are told that they can not harm the remaining food supply of the earth. They are only permitted to attack humans that are not sealed by the Holy Spirit. Again we see that our Father is in total control, even telling the creatures of the Abyss what they can and cannot do. We are so plainly marked by our Father’s power that they know they cannot harm us. I am telling you the Church will be something very powerful during these times!
5 They were not permitted to kill them, but to torment (distress, vex) them for five months; and the pain caused them was like the torture of a scorpion when it stings a person.
6 And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; and they will yearn to die, but death evades and flees from them.
I wonder how death evades the unsaved during these times. I mean just take a gun and blow your head off, yet death evades the people who are vexed by these spiritual creatures. Can you imagine the distress of people who are trying to die and yet they cannot. It sounds like these beings posses people and cause them great torments, and yet at the same time they cause them to have a tremendous fear of dying, so much so that they don’t commit suicide.
