End of Times Matthew 24:29-30

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and beat their breasts and lament in anguish, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory [in brilliancy and splendor].

People will mourn, because they will fear what they believe is about to happen to them. They will not know what to expect. These people will have probably been told their whole life how they will be punished and how God will get His vengeance. But the glorious Truth is that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever; He never changes, Hebrews 13:8. So to see how Jesus will react when He returns, we can look at how He reacted when He was here.

When the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in the middle of the court and put the case before Him. Teacher, they said, This woman has been caught in the very act of adultery. John 8:3-4

This woman had committed the Capital Offense of adultery. She was guilty and the punishment for her crime was death. So let’s see how Jesus reacted.

When Jesus raised Himself up, He said to her, Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you? She answered, No one, Lord! And Jesus said, I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more. John 8:10-11

This woman had to be scared to death. She was in all likelihood mourning and in great anguish. She had heard her whole life and probably even seen people killed or punished severely for committing sin. Yet when Jesus came to her, He ran off those who would hurt her and He forgave her. Jesus made sure that she was forgiven and not punished in any way.

This is why the people who do not know Jesus will be mourning when they see Him return, because they will have only heard religion with its condemnation and fear. But what is waiting for them is not punishment, it is love and forgiveness. Their doubt and uncertainty will be turned to joy and gladness when Jesus returns.

Also look at how Jesus reacted to those who lied about Him, tortured Him, and finally killed Him.

And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them. Luke 23:34

The lost will at first mourn, but their fears and tears shall be turned into laughs and smiles. Jesus has not changed and He will not change. His vengeance is on sin, not on us.
