Debt

Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements]. Romans 13:8

Debt is such a huge problem for so many of us. It wears on our thoughts, it causes us to feel like we have to be limited in how we can talk about Jesus at our jobs, and it stops us from being able to be used to produce the abundant fruit of love. The problem with debt is it causes us to focus so much attention on ourselves and our needs, when the whole key to an abundant life is taking thought for others and their needs. Think of how bold we would all be if we truly owed no man anything except to love him?

Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless. Mark 4:19

So the question is why is our Father allowing it to happen? Therein lies the answer to our problem, we really don’t think why is our Father allowing it, we think what have we done to cause it. So many of us are looking and focussing only on ourselves when it comes to debt. How did we do to get into so much debt? What do we need to do to get out of debt? When the Truth is what is our Father doing and what is He going to do to get us out of debt, so that He can produce much and abundant fruit through us?

I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. John 15:5

Debt will continue to be a huge problem until we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to realize that we are only in debt because our Father allowed us to be in it and He allowed it to cause us to trust in Him. The burden of debt weakens us and when we are weak, our Father becomes stronger in us, 2 Corinthians 12:10. Debt causes us to realize that worldly possessions do not bring peace, love, and joy. We will only be removed from debt because our Father removes it from us. As long as we are thinking that we need to tithe or give an offering, as if we are doing it, debt will continue. It will continue because we are looking at ourselves and not at our source of everything. As long as we believe that we are responsible for our well being, we will have some level of fear and doubt. Our peace that passes all understanding is that our well being is completely up to our Father and this includes being debt free. If debt causes us to not bear fruit, then our Father is responsible to remove it from us; and He is not a man that He should lie.

Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. John 15:2

Our Father is a jealous Being over us and He will never allow us to look at a power that is not the Truth. The Truth that sets us free is that it is totally our Father’s responsibility to remove debt from us, so that we can be used by Him to produce love. The burden of us owing no man anything is our Father’s and He will do whatever it takes to make us who He wants us to be. So the thought process of freedom isn’t what do we need to do, it is Father what are you going to do?
