One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls then came and spoke to me, saying, Come with me! I will show you the doom (sentence, judgment) of the great harlot (idolatress) who is seated on many waters,
- A harlot is a woman who has frequent casual sexual relationships.
- This harlot is seated on many waters, so what she represents has relationships with many people, many nations.
- Notice that we are shown the destruction of the Harlot, not those who acted with her.
2 [She] with whom the rulers of the earth have joined in prostitution (idolatry) and with the wine of whose immorality (idolatry) the inhabitants of the earth have become intoxicated.
- What one thing do all men have in common? Money.
- The love of money is the root of all evil.
- For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs. 1 Timothy 6:10
- All men, all nations, desire wealth and the power that comes with it. People who don't have money even want money, this is just not an issue for the rich.
- All men are not joined by one religion, or one country, but all men love money in whatever form it is.
- The harlot is the world’s love of money.
