Revelation 6:10-11

10 They cried in a loud voice, O [Sovereign] Lord, holy and true, how long now before You will sit in judgment and avenge our blood upon those who dwell on the earth?
  • Jesus’ judgment has always been Grace towards people, but wrath towards their evil acts.
  • The saints will be crying out for Grace, not vengeance, for the people left. Look at Stephen, Jesus, Paul, and all of the New Testament believers, the Holy Spirit always had them seek grace for those who persecuted them. The Holy Spirit never changes, so it has to be the same. Our blood would not be avenged by destroying the souls of the wicked, it will be avenged by setting them free through Grace. Even though they do not deserve it, neither did we.
11 Then they were each given a long and flowing and festive white robe and told to rest and wait patiently a little while longer, until the number should be complete of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed as they themselves had been.
  • White represents righteousness and perfection.
  • The robes represent victory. The robes are festive. We are always victorious through Christ.
  • Jesus alone controls death, so He Alone has allowed these people to be killed for the Kingdoms sake. But it is only the death of the flesh, their souls and spirits prosper greatly.
  • We are shown here that there are a pre determined number of people who are to be offered. This shows us that there is predestination.
  • These chosen ones did not die from disease, pestilence, or drinking the bitter water; they were martyred for the Kingdom of Heaven. They were killed for being used by the Holy Spirit to testify of Jesus and the Kingdom. Look at Stephen, John, Peter, and Paul when they were beaten and killed, and look at the grace and power that they had when they were being killed. The Truth is that if our Father allows us to be sacrificed for our testimony of Jesus, He will anoint us with power to glory during it. So don’t fear the idea of being martyred at all. If you are counted worthy to go through it, our Father’s yoke is still easy and His burden is still light, and He is still greater within us, than anything or any persecution that is in this world!
  • The white robes represent that these people are pure and that they were victorious. Also these souls are active, they are not sleeping. This shows us that when our flesh dies, we just don’t sleep until we are raised up at the last day. To be absent from the body is to be present with Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:8. And they must still be souls, because they are told that they must wait until the rest of their brothers and sisters who are to be martyred have been killed. The dead have to be raised first, and there are still more chosen ones of God to die.
  • This is also a great verse to use to contradict the teaching that says that the church is not spoken of in Revelation 4 through 20. I always heard that preached when I was younger, and the preachers always said that since Jesus never mentioned the church in these chapters, it proved that there was a rapture. But we see here, that Jesus clearly shows John, that there are members of the Church to be martyred during the Great Tribulation. What is the Church, except the called and chosen of our Father!
  • This is also a great verse to show that when our flesh dies, our spirits and souls still care about and intercede for our brothers and sisters in Christ. When we die we don’t just sleep, we lose the cares of the flesh and become closer to our Father and more powerful for the Kingdom. To die just means that we move into the next phase of life. We actually grow. This is why there is no fear in death.
