Ephesians 5:3-7

But immorality (sexual vice) and all impurity [of lustful, rich, wasteful living] or greediness must not even be named among you, as is fitting and proper among saints (God’s consecrated people). Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God]. For be sure of this: that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain]—for he [in effect] is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience. So do not associate or be sharers with them. Ephesians 5:3-7

My experience is that the more that we are told not to do these things, the more that we all desire to do them. We act this way because that is how we have been made, it’s just born into us to want to break the rules. It is not a design flaw, it a characteristic that causes us to trust in and rely on our Father and not ourselves. It does this because as long as we trust in ourselves we will fail and that doesn’t bring the peace and joy that we all desire.

For God has consigned (penned up) all men to disobedience, only that He may have mercy on them all [alike]. Romans 11:32

As it is written, None is righteous, just and truthful and upright and conscientious, no, not one. Romans 3:10

The only way that we will be able to ever stop doing the things that Paul writes about is by being set free by the Truth, the Truth that we can’t stop doing them and shouldn’t even try. When the Holy Spirit allows us to know the Truth is when our Father will stop us from acting in ways that we shouldn’t. His power alone working in us allows us to have peace and stop condemning ourselves and those around us.

For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death. For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice], So that the righteous and just requirement of the Law might be fully met in us who live and move not in the ways of the flesh but in the ways of the Spirit [our lives governed not by the standards and according to the dictates of the flesh, but controlled by the Holy Spirit]. Romans 8:2-3

So do not beat yourself up about sin. Relax in the Truth that it is our Father Who is responsible, willing, and capable of causing us to be the people who we are suppose to be. He Alone has to do it for us. This is the Truth that sets us all free.
