Revelation 20:1-3

Then I saw an angel descending from heaven; he was holding the key of the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and a great chain was in his hand.
  • This may be a physical angel or it might represent a mighty message, either way the devil and his message of deception and lies are going to be thrown into the Abyss when Jesus returns.
2 And he gripped and overpowered the dragon, that old serpent [of primeval times], who is the devil and Satan, and [securely] bound him for a thousand years.
3 Then he hurled him into the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and closed it and sealed it above him, so that he should no longer lead astray and deceive and seduce the nations until the thousand years were at an end. After that he must be liberated for a short time.
  • Jesus will rule during this time with an iron rod. Satan will not be allowed to deceive, but that does not mean that all of the people here on the earth will be willing participants of Jesus’ grace and mercy. Some will have to be ruled with a rod of iron.
  • From His mouth goes forth a sharp sword with which He can smite (afflict, strike) the nations; and He will shepherd and control them with a staff (scepter, rod) of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath and indignation of God the All-Ruler (the Almighty, the Omnipotent). Revelation 19:15
  • I hope that you have noticed with these studies that the message of Revelation is simple and it isn’t that large or complicated.
  • Jesus really just keeps saying the same thing: He is going to be victorious, some will empowered to accept His Truth before He returns and some after they are raised from Hades. Jesus also tells us that worldliness and the love of money will cause trouble and that it will be defeated by the mighty messages that He proclaims through His Bride during the end times.
  • He also tells us that the world will kick and scream like a baby with warm milk, but in the end He wins. Revelation is not some indiscernible message. It is Truth and it sets us free.
  • Revelation also tells us that there are going to be many who are here during the end times who will not be deceived.
  • After this I looked and a vast host appeared which no one could count, [gathered out] of every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages. These stood before the throne and before the Lamb; they were attired in white robes, with palm branches in their hands. Revelation 7:9
